Tests for the Definition of asbestosis

2 min read

The definition of asbestosis can be difficult to diagnose because the signs and symptoms are similar to those of many other types of respiratory ailments. Launching from the Mayo Clinic, this test must be done to detect asbestosis, namely:

definition of asbestosis
  1. Physical Examination

As part of the evaluation, the doctor should ask about medical history, occupation, and risk of asbestos exposure. During physical control, the doctor uses a stethoscope to listen to your lungs to determine if there is a crackling sound when you inhale.

  1. Imaging Tests

Imaging tests aim to see the state of the lungs through the resulting images. Several types of imaging tests can be done, namely:

  • Chest X-ray. Through chest X-rays, asbestosis shows a lot of whitish in the lung tissue. If the condition of asbestosis is getting worse, the tissue in both lungs may be affected, making it look like a honeycomb.
  • CT-Scan. A CT scan combines a series of X-ray views seized from different angles to produce cross-sectional images of the bones and soft tissues inside the body. This scan adds greater detail and more detail. A CT scan helps detect asbestosis at an early stage, especially before it becomes visible on a chest X-ray.
  1. Lung Function Test

Pulmonary function tests have the goal of choosing how well the lungs continue to function. A lung benefit test is done along with measuring how much air the lungs can hold and the flow of air into and visible from the lungs.

During the test, you are asked to blow vigorously into an air measuring device called a spirometer. A more complete lung function test can measure the quantity of oxygen transferred to the bloodstream.

  1. Fluid and Tissue Testing

In some situations, your doctor may need fluid and tissue samples to identify asbestos fibers or abnormal cells. To get the sample, your doctor will likely perform these tests:

Bronchoscopy. Bronchoscopy is performed by inserting a thin tube (bronchoscope) through the nose or mouth, down the throat, and into the lungs. Bronchoscopy is also enhanced by a small camera so that doctors can see inside the airways of the lungs.

Thorakosynthesis. Through this definition of asbestosis, the doctor injects a local anesthetic and inserts a needle through the chest wall in the ribs and lungs to dispel excess fluid. This fluid is then analyzed in the laboratory.
